BROADCAST INTO OBLIVION - oracular oratorio? opera povera? (click to watch video)

During our seven year improvisational practice, musician Mark Cauvin and interdisciplinary artist Nikki Heywood have been building a dynamic live performance oeuvre. We have been developing and experimenting together since a Responsive Research Residency at Critical Path in 2013.

In 2014 we shared a one-month residency enabled by Brand X studios in Camperdown Bowling club.

In 2016 Mark collaborated with me for the final presentation of my creative research doctoral project museum of the sublime: relic #10.

In 2017 we had studio residencies at Rex Cramphorn Studio USyd, and Readymade studio through Ausdance’s DAIR program to develop new work. We were commissioned to present a performance for Bundanon’s Siteworks.

In 2018 Heywood was again the recipient of a Critical Path Research Residency to continue collaboration with Cauvin alongside photographer Heidrun Lohr and choreographer Hellen Sky on the Wobbly Project.

An initial concept for the project Broadcast into Oblivion, which evolved from the Wobbly Project, was scheduled for support through March Dance and presentation by Brand X in 2020, until Covid 19 shut down all arts venues and events.

We were invited to present an excerpt of Broadcast into Oblivion in Performance Space’s Liveworks program ‘Livedreams’ for works in progress in October 2020
